The Wister Wildcats beat the Rattan Rams 8-6 on Thursday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at six in the bottom of the fifth when Easton Turnipseed singled, scoring two runs.

Rattan opened the scoring in the first after Jayden Byars induced James Childers to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

Wister took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Byars hit into a fielder’s choice, and Torben Vocque singled, each scoring one run.

The Rams jumped back into the lead in the top of the third inning after Childers singled, Kobe Tabor walked, and Childers stole home, each scoring one run.

The Wildcats flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 8-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Turnipseed that drove in two.

Byars earned the win for Wister, allowing eight hits and six runs (five earned) over six and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking four. Mark Janoe started on the bump for Rattan. The starter gave up five hits and eight runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking three. Ethan Thornburg appeared in relief for the Wildcats.

Kord Fenton and Vocque each collected two hits for Wister. Turnipseed and Vocque were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Wister. The Wildcats were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Preston Perez had the most chances in the field with 10.

Childers provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Rattan with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Shade Cody led Rattan with three hits in four at bats. Keller Shockey collected two hits for the Rams in three at bats. Childers stole two bases. Rattan stole five bases in the game and turned one double play in the game.
