Gans Varsity Lady Grizzlies Claw Back, But Fall Just Short Against Gore Varsity Lady Pirates

Gans Varsity Lady Grizzlies’s effort to come back from down five runs in the second inning came up just short, as they fell 9-8 to Gore Varsity Lady Pirates on Monday. Gans Varsity Lady Grizzlies closed the gap by scoring on a ground out, a double, and a triple.

Gabbie Price collected three hits in four at bats in the loss. Price tripled in the fifth inning, singled in the second inning, and doubled in the fourth inning.

Gans Varsity Lady Grizzlies got on the board in the top of the second inning after Price singled, and Madi Pilkington hit into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run.

Gore Varsity Lady Pirates flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs on three hits to take the lead, 7-2. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in two.

A triple by Abigail Leach gave Gans Varsity Lady Grizzlies the lead, 8-7, in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Gore Varsity Lady Pirates went back into the lead after Hallie Brewer doubled, and Kendra Huckbay was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run.

Cheyenne Davidson earned the win for Gore Varsity Lady Pirates. The starting pitcher gave up nine hits and eight runs over seven innings, striking out 12 and walking 10. Leach took the loss for Gans Varsity Lady Grizzlies. The hurler went six innings, surrendering nine runs (four earned) on six hits, striking out seven and walking six.

Maddie Freeman drove the middle of the lineup, leading Gans Varsity Lady Grizzlies with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-5 on the day. Aaliyah Taylor paced Gans Varsity Lady Grizzlies with four walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating 10 walks for the game.

Brewer, the number eight hitter for Gore Varsity Lady Pirates, led the way with three runs batted in. The right fielder went 2-for-3 on the day. River Shoemake paced Gore Varsity Lady Pirates with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Gore Varsity Lady Pirates turned one double play in the game. Gore Varsity Lady Pirates were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Emily Daily made the most plays with 12.
